Abstract
This research analyses the educational values that physical education teachers feel the teaching of gymnastic and acrobatic skills promotes. In addition, it investigates which types of activities they believe to be the most appropriate as regards the values and benefits they offer. The study employs a qualitative approach and AQUAD 6 software is used to analyse the data. The results reveal that the participants perceive that gymnastics activities promote personal and social values and skills such as self-esteem, confidence, cooperation, and team work, amongst others. The participants identify Acrosport as the activity which offers most opportunities for the development of pupils’ abilities during learning. Teachers’ reflections could contribute to a much needed awareness, and prevent the disappearance of this discipline from school curriculums, as well as contributing to a rethinking of specific initial training.
