Abstract

This paper analyses the development in the curriculum of physical education according to three main elements (purposes, contents and methodology). Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from a survey and focus groups to reach the objectives of this study. Findings showed physical education teachers had some difficulties in order to carry out the prescriptions of educational policy. Nevertheless, our findings pointed out differences between primary and secondary teachers according to purposes, selection of contents and its implementation. Therefore, this study suggests that development of physical education is affected by values and policy surrounding the curriculum in each educational level where teachers work.
