Abstract

This study aims to ascertain the effects, determinants and proposals for improvement of the Model of Personal and Social Responsibility (MPSR) from the vantage point of teachers who have implemented this model. After receiving a training program, sixteen physical education teachers used the MPSR with 315 primary and secondary school students. Group interviews were held with the participating teachers. The teachers believed that their students’ attitudes and values improved, as had their own skills. The type of content, the students’ profile and age and the teachers’ experience are determinants whose influence comes prior to the implementation of the MPSR, while lesson time, changes in the teaching intervention, the uncertainty of the process and student behaviour are the determinants during the implementation of the MPSR. In order to improve the model, its implementation from the very beginning of the academic year and throughout all subjects is highly recommended.
