Abstract

This work outlines the importance of fairplay and sportspersonship concepts in youth socialization process through sport. Moreover some instruments for their evaluation are shown. In this article, some general considerations about youngsters socialisation process through sports are exposed in first place. Secondly, fairplay and sportspersonship concepts are defined. Then a series of research on values, attitudes and behaviours related to fairplay and sportspersonship in young and professional athletes, done by the Grup d’Estudis de Psicologia de l’Esport de la Universitat Autanoma de Barcelona (GEPE), are presented. In fourth place, causes that can lead to a deterioration of fairplay as well as psychological strategies to prevent it are presented. Finally, the objectives of a campaign of sportspersonship promotion for athletes’ families, promoted in collaboration between the “Taula de l’educació fisica i l’esport en edat escolar de la ciutat de Barcelona” and the GEPE are presented.
