Abstract
Exercising abdominal muscles so as to strengthen this region is a widespread habit among people who usually practice sports. Our clinical and sports experience prove that, generally, there is an inaccurate performance of this type of exercise. This fact leads to the unfulfillment of the aim (abdominal strengthening) and it might also entail risk for both the spine and the pelvis floor muscles. The aim of this article is to provide guidelines for the appropriate performance of abdominal strengthening exercises, avoiding thus injuries in other regions of the locomotor system.
