Abstract

The classification system used by the Cerebral Palsy International Sport and Recreation Association (CP-ISRA), to determine the level of functional ability at which each person with cerebral paralysis should develop sports activities in general and “boccia” in particular is being seriously questioned in its present form. The main reason is the need to develop a series of functional tests for each sport to complement the medical-functional tests used nowadays, so as to dispose both of a protocol of general test and a protocol of specific tests for each sport for the sporting classification of the subject. This study, focused on the sport of “boccia”, aims to define a protocol of tests specific for this sport which might be used as a complement for the medical-functional test applied by the CP-ISRA to classify individuals with cerebral paralysis in the practice of “boccia”.
