Abstract
This paper impacts on a work form that separates from the traditional handball goalkeepers training when facing a very concrete type of shots, like the first line shots. We would like to emphasize the importance of training the perceptive and decisional skills, since it seems that an eminently technical training is not sufficient, due to the fact that the speed of reaction of the goalkeeper, when he reacts to the direction of the ball, is not enough to stop it getting into goal. In this sense, bearing in mind the existent theories about information management and the first line shots statistics in the ASOBAL League, we would like to remark that improving the way the goalkeepers receive and manage information of the situation, that is to say, improving their comprehension of the game and tactical skills, goalkeepers will be able to give a better reaction to this type of shots. This way, goalkeepers will anticipate their actions being based on a series of signals the game shows and will be able to analyze them and react in a properly way in space and time. Therefore, we give as an example of a couple of exercises developed to train and improve the perceptive and decisional skills.
