Abstract

This article offers a review of some of the discourses related to sport that is practiced in the setting of the public space of Barcelona, attempting to analyse the logic of these practices from the point of view of the practitioners but also from the discourse of people such as writers, journalists, politicians, managers … who, by means of their declarations, also contribute to the construction of a part of this type of sporting experience in an urban context. The analysis focuses itself more specifically on two groups of sports practitioners; one being skaters and the other being several groups of immigrants of foreign origin, given the high media impact that the practices of both groups have had in the city, in a similar way to the wide gamut of discourses which have also emerged around such activities.
