Abstract

One of the leading objectives of this investigation is to find out about the demand for physical and sports leisure activities amongst secondary post obligatory education pupils (ESPO) and second cycle students at the University of Almeria and also about the conditions in which they would like to practise these activities: modalities, frequency of practice, periods of time and ways to practise them. At the same time we try to contrast this demand among the two types of students mentioned above in order to obtain objective data which will allow us to make accurate decisions to provide the appropriate offer for this demand. The groups studied consist of students from secondary post obligatory education (ESPO) and second cycle students from the University of Almeria. The ESPO sample (1998/99 academic year) consists of 1.375 students and the second cycle sample (98/99 academic year) of 878. The sample error assumed is 3 % and the confidence level is 95.5 %. The data collection has been carried out with a quantitative methodology by means of questionnaires (self-administered questionnaire massively applied by classrooms in the presence of the applier). The data analysis carried out by quantitative techniques with the IT programme SPSS/PC = (V 7.52), allowed us to present descriptive results of the different variables, as well as the inferentials. In the questionnaire, students were asked to indicate by order of preference, the physical activities and /or sport modalities they would like to practise in their leisure time. The results of the comparative analysis of the variable demand in both groups cited above are presented in relation to the frequency, character or purpose, period of time and type of offer.
