Abstract

The aim of the paper was to define anthropometric profile, body composition, and physical conditioning in 13 national level female handball players. For this reason, athletes were anthropometrically measured, besides, physical conditioning was tested throughout a 30 m sprint, handball throwing velocity (standing and with 3 steps), and finally with a maximum isometric strength test (FIM). Standart descriptive and correlational analyses were carried out (P ≤ 0.05). Results shown than Spanish female handball players have similar anthropometric characteristics to others countries players, in addition a high physical conditioning, excluding FIM test. Finally, a significant correlation was found between handball throwing velocity, both standing (R = 0,87; P = 0,001) and dynamic (R = 0,73; P = 0,016) and the FIM. National level female players have similar characteristics to others countries players. Physical conditioning is a key factor in high level female handball players. FIM test is valid for determining handball throwing velocity.
