Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to analyse whether the 8th Poblet Forest Trekorientació® can be considered a sustainable sports event. We consider a sustainable sports event as one that seeks to minimise the level of environmental impact of its organisation and doing the sport itself (environmental sustainability) while it also endeavours to integrate the diversity of its participants in the most balanced way possible (internal social sustainability). For our organisational analysis we used an analytical model developed from the Guide to the Environment and Sustainability Applied to Non-Olympic Sports: Environmental Measures and Best Practice. For our analysis of sports participation we used a survey of a representative sample of 211 participants. Our main findings include recognising the Poblet Forest Trekorientació® as a socially and environmentally sustainable event.
