Abstract
This article explores the geographical study of sport in Catalonia in greater depth through the use of production and migration geographic variation models. We study the specific case of playing tennis and its territorial relationship and use a graphical representation of the data to explain the dynamics that have taken place. Discussion of the results of the particular case study makes it possible to explain the current distribution of playing tennis across the country. Longitudinal analysis over time has enabled us to understand the innovation, dispersion and adoption processes that have occurred in this sport, and further longitudinal analysis of the recent situation provides information about the production of practitioners, facilities and organisational structures in certain geographical areas. In the conclusions of this study we summarise the reasons for the changes observed in playing tennis and extrapolate them beyond this sport and extend their validity to other sports that have followed the same dispersion process.
