Abstract
On the threshold of the 21st Century it is necessary to lay out our professional perspectives, and one of these is connected to the field of research. The object of this article is to provide a conceptual framework for research in Spanish physical education. The questions which this conceptual framework bring up are the following: a) what meaning does knowledge have in relation to -reality-, b) what are the intentions of the research, c) what are the most appropriate methods of research, d) what themes should be investigated, e) what contexts can and should be investigated, f) who and with whom can we investigate, g) what means are necessary to investigate, h) what aspects political and ideological crop up in an investigation, i) what ethical principles should be taken into account when investigating and)) how does investigation influence in the professional practice.
