Abstract

In this paper we show a study about the previous experience in fighting sports of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences Degree students. It is based on data gathering and analysis of a questionnaire administered to the students of first cycle of this degree, of the Universities of Valencia and León, to the beginning of 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 academic years. Results show that near fifty percent of the students have fighting sports’ experiences. Judo, karate and taekwondo are, in this order, the most practiced sports. There are no students with fencing or greco-roman wrestling experiences. It is also observed a low existence of fighting activities in ruled physical education classes, since only 1,36 percent of the students have practiced these activities in physical education curriculum.
