Abstract
There are several authors who locate the origin of waterpolo between 1869 and 1870. From this time at the present time waterpolo has developed from a playful and entertainment beginning, to its establishment and consolidation as an international and Olympic deports. This article achieves an historical route by the sport of waterpolo, its beginnings in England and its expanse towards the U.S.A. and Europe. A detailed study of waterpolo in Spain is carried out emphasizing the important impulse of the “Club Natación Barcelona”, since its birth in 1907 to the Olympic sport successes of the last decade.
