Abstract

The aim of this research work is to show that the current arrangement of football competitions in La Rioja, among other regions, in the first year of the Children’s Category in terms of passage from the modality of 7 football to 11 football has some deficiencies that cause a lack of adjustment between the characteristics of football and the real potential of children. Therefore, we propose an interim modality, i.e., 9 football, which would be an actual adjustment alternative within a wide range of possibilities, where the control of the space would not show significant differences in terms of the development of the game that characterizes 7 football and, thus, would imply a progressive adaptation of the game to the children involved rather than an adaptation of children to adult sport.
