Abstract

This article is based on research conducted for the thesis Pedagogical Consequences of Looking and Touching in Corporal Expression, which examines the non-verbal communication that arises in activities related to corporal expression, focusing on the analysis of the experience of students engaged in such activities. The study concentrates in particular on tactile and visual forms of interaction that take place during the development of expressive activities. In order to conduct this research, it was regarded as appropriate to apply a phenomenological methodology; more specifically, the methods used were the student’s diary and content analysis. In this way it was possible to register, classify and analyse the types of behaviour involved in the two kinds of interaction targeted for this study. Results confirm that individuals do not remain indifferent when they experience one of these two types of social interaction, either the action of looking or touching. These behaviour modifications imply a set of pedagogical consequences that must be taken into account when it comes to introducing didactic resources to improve educational practice.
