Abstract
The purpose of this article is to review and provide a general classification of simulators employed for sailing tuition and race training. Sailing simulators are an useful and interactive way to solve many problems in sail teaching and learning process. They help to understand the sailing principles using different materials and ways to reproduce technical effects on board of a sailboat (or sailboard). Several countries and sailing organizations use to apply this resources like an important instructional aid for indoor activities. However, this kind of devices are less frequent in Spanish sailing schools. From simple dryland artifacts until modern virtual sailing simulators this work revises a representative sample of main simulators types in order to emphasizes their utilities in teaching applied settings.
