Abstract
The starting point for this article was the climbing wall of sport climbing constructed and mantained by GEEU (Sport Climbing Group of Unicamp, of which students from different university courses participated) based in the Faculty of Physical Education of Campinas State University, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Casting a curious glance on this group and its set-up, we raised discussions about climbing and its relation with risk, fear and other adventure activities in the outdoors. Reflecting on the danger and insecurity, we tried to show the converging and diverging points, in both natural and artificial ambits. This article is part of a much wider investigation, that takes in a Master’s thesis, on sport climbing, whose qualitative research is in the area of leisure studies.
