Abstract
Every extreme physical activity implies variations in the athlete’s physiological parameters. This article reviews the systemic changes produced in the body during the sport practice that could have a certain incidence, from a rational point of view, on the visual system function, as changes in the cardiovascular, respiratory, or neuro-endocrine systems. Afterwards, based on a bibliographic review, an analysis of the direct relationship of the physical activity practice on the visual system will be performed. This analysis will be focused both on visual abilities changes (i.e. visual acuity o accommodation) and on anatomical and physiological parameters as irido-corneal angle, pupil diameters, intraocular pressure, choroidal blood flow, ocular perfusion, or ocular vessels diameter. The work ends by pointing out some interesting research lines in the field of ocular physiology during physical activity practice, and some suggestions for researches that work on the sports vision area.
