A random study with two parallel groups was planned (GAS, <em>n\u2009<\/em>=\u200910 vs. AS, <em>n\u2009<\/em>=\u200912) with participants over the age of 55 who met the following exclusion criteria: back disease and\/or chronic back pain, and systematically engaging in any activity that improves flexibility. All participants were evaluated before (T1) and after (T2) the 10-week intervention period. The following tests were performed: height measurement, fingertip-to-floor test, posture in relation to the vertical axis (lumbar, cervical and occipital wall distance) and respiratory measurements. The results revealed that the GAS group showed a height increase (T1\u2009=\u2009173.6\u2009\u00b1\u20096 cm vs. T2\u2009=\u2009173.9\u2009\u00b1\u20096.1 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.034), decreases in fingertip-to-floor distance (T1\u2009=\u200919.5 \u00b1 11.9 cm vs. T2\u2009=\u200910.2\u2009\u00b1\u200913.4 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.008), lumbar distance (T1\u2009=\u2009 4\u00b10.4 cm vs. T2\u2009=\u20093.5\u2009\u00b1\u20090.8 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u20090.029) and cervical distance (T1\u2009=\u20096.6\u2009\u00b1\u20092.5 cm vs. T2\u2009=\u20095.6\u2009\u00b1\u20092.1 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.023). The AS group showed only a decrease in fingertip-to-floor distance (T1\u2009=\u200915.6\u2009\u00b1\u200913.5 vs. T2\u2009=\u20097.4\u2009\u00b1\u200913.1 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.001) and lumbar distance (T1\u2009=\u20093\u2009\u00b1\u20091.4 cm vs T2\u2009=\u20092.7\u2009\u00b1\u20091.4 cm; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.027). No changes were found in respiratory function after the study in either group. With regard to the inter-group analysis, there was only a difference in height in favour of the GAS group (0.32\u2009\u00b1\u20090.1 cm; <em>p<\/em>=.047) compared to the AS group, while the AS group seemed to show a greater improvement in its FVC1 (\u20130.43\u2009\u00b1\u20090.19 L; <em>p\u2009<\/em>=\u2009.039) compared to the GAS group.
