This article has as an objective the analysis of the term “professional .sportsman” from the point of view of labour laws. For this end, we need to pay attention to the speciality of this type of work contract, as is given in Art. 2:1 of the law 8\/1980 of 10th March (Workers Statute).
After the analysis of the definition of a professional sportsman as recognised in Art 1:2 of R.D. 1006\/85, 26th June, and the main component elements, the next concentrates on the special relationship of the contract and the competent me- diums to settle the conflicts between the sportsman and the club or organisation. Within this idea, we place special emphasis on the existing relationship between the “rules of play or competition” and the “sporting rules”; a delimitation which actually appears to meet some difficulties, as is shown in the field of contracts of ,foreign sportsmen.
