L&#8217;increment de la for\u00e7a m\u00e0xima s&#8217;explica nom\u00e9s en part per l&#8217;augment en l&#8217;\u00e0rea de la secci\u00f3 transversal (AST), ja que l&#8217;activaci\u00f3 volunt\u00e0ria dels m\u00fasculs agonistes augmenta en major grau en les persones de mitjana i avan\u00e7ada edat. L&#8217;entrenament tamb\u00e9 pot induir una reducci\u00f3 en la coactivaci\u00f3 dels m\u00fasculs antagonistes en les persones d&#8217;avan\u00e7ada edat fins el mateix nivell de partida registrat per als de mitjana edat. Els treballs que es presenten tamb\u00e9 suggereixen que no solament en persones de mitjana edat, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 en les d&#8217;edat avan\u00e7ada, es poden obtenir increments significatius en la capacitat del sistema neuromuscular per produir for\u00e7a m\u00e0xima i explosiva.
