Des de no fa gaire se n\u2019est\u00e0 ampliant l\u2019aplicaci\u00f3 cap a altres \u00e0rees m\u00e9s directament vinculades a la salut. El VT es presenta com un possible m\u00e8tode efica\u00e7 en la prevenci\u00f3 de diverses dolences. L\u2019objectiu de la revisi\u00f3 que presentem \u00e9s intentar d\u2019esclarir si realment el VT \u00e9s benefici\u00f3s per a la salut (per als sistemes ossi, endocr\u00ed, cardiovascular, per a la composici\u00f3 corporal i la qualitat de vida) i quins s\u00f3n els mecanismes pels quals es produeixen aquests beneficis. Pel que fa al sistema ossi hom ha observat un augment de la densitat mineral \u00f2ssia i una disminuci\u00f3 conseg\u00fcent de l\u2019osteoporosi. D\u2019altra banda, despr\u00e9s d\u2019exposicions curtes al VT s\u2019ha observat un augment dels nivells s\u00e8rics de la testosterona i l\u2019hormona del creixement, mentre que els de cortisol disminueixen i els d\u2019insulina es mantenen. Durant l\u2019exposici\u00f3 a VT augmenta el consum d\u2019oxigen i l\u2019activitat muscular. L\u2019exposici\u00f3 controlada al VT pot disminuir a llarg termini el dolor lumbar.
